Humbled by these kind words. Sometimes it is the quiet business of just being who we are meant to be that impacts others the most. The Obamas showed us possibility; the dream of being better than we already are. They showed us the joy of playfulness, the freedom of kindness and respect. They showed us vulnerability and depth. They looked to humanity as something to be a part of, not separate from.
The courage to be vulnerable, the courage to show up honestly, that is strength. The courage to feel empathy and curiosity, that is strength that creates connection and mutual respect and understanding.
But first, there must be a willingness to see vulnerability, to be curious, to feel the discomfort of negative feelings and share honestly. Only then can we see strength and courage.
